Architectural museum project
Construction of the second phase of the Museum
— it is the creation of a unique space where architecture
becomes the voice of memory.
Central
architectural design
The new museum building forms a natural extension of the first phase and creates a single, cohesive memorial complex. The central design concept was the seamless integration of the building into the complex landscape of the Dnieper riverbanks.
-
The Symbolism of the Building
An embodiment of the truth about the Holodomor
After decades of concealment and silence, it literally bursts out of the ground into the light, shattering the roof.
-
Roof construction
Lumps of earth dislodged whilst ploughing
It epitomises the vast efforts and hard work of thousands of people, thanks to whom the world has learnt the forbidden truth.
The history of the construction
of the second phase of the Museum
A large-scale project that has undergone a difficult journey from a prolonged political standstill to the resumption of work.
Although the full-scale war has disrupted the construction schedule and delayed the planned opening, work on creating a cohesive space for the Museum continues.
The Museum’s unique building
-
Symbolic arrangement
The building is situated on an imaginary axis linking the ‘Candle of Remembrance’ monument and the viewing platform on Dniprovskyi Uzviz.
-
Logistics and accessibility
It will be possible to enter the building housing the permanent exhibition from two sides: from the ‘Candle of Remembrance’ or via a special bridge from the direction of the viewing platform.
-
Ceremonial Square
A special, spacious area will be created in front of the museum entrance for commemorative and official events.
